You know, I really miss the Game Boy. Taking it everywhere with me, playing Metroid II and The Legend of Zelda.

Back when saving up $100 from my paper route bought True Happiness. At least for one summer.

If what you really miss is the Gameboy, and not your childhood, the Gameboy DS pretty much rocks and has a rocking library.

Your childhood, alas, has been sold out for years.

I thought about the DS, but it wouldn't have Metroid II. :-) And I can only imagine what terrible things they've done to Zelda.

But yeah, largely I miss my childhood. Having the free time to play games.

I'm late for work.

It's interesting, nearly 20 years later, is the DS any more "fun" than the Gameboy? I'm not sure it is, by that much. And that's not an insult to the DS, it is a great piece of electronics and gaming.

Hi Gill!

I haven't handled a DS yet so I can't speak to the touch-screen or the magic of BrainAge or what-have-you. I do think the DS is the CLUNKIEST-looking handheld Nintendo ever made.

For me, it peaked with the thin Gameboy Color. That was just a delightful, perfect experience.

I sort of wish we, as a species, had it in us to leave well enough alone. To say, "We've made it! We've solved this problem. Just package the next version in silver and ivory."

I never had a Colo(u)r, just the original Gameboy. And I wouldn't call the DS clunky. Wimpy, maybe. Everybody broke their hinge within a couple weeks of having one.

I did sell my DS after it sat around not being used for over half a year. I never seem to get into gaming for any extended period of time. Mind you, the last few games I bought on the DS were teh suck. I think if I were to buy anything new it would be a proper console, but even then, I don't want more reason to sit around at home alone.

Ha! I thought you were Ms. Popular. Whatever happened to the beer-and-podcasts?

Buy a Wii or Xbox 360, then invite everyone over to play Rock Band. That's my plan, anyway. Instant fake social life.

I know what you mean though; I sold both my Gameboys because I stopped playing them after a few months. I wanted to, I just never seemed to find time.

DS more fun?

I would say you are underestimating the fun level to be added by a backlight. That was really all that was necessary. heh. I agree with coop a bit in that the Gameboy color was probably fine. Certaintly all i needed.

I wonder what nintendo could sell a gameboy color for. Much less than the DS? A color with a little better graphics capability?

Is that the PSP?

Anyways, I hear you should check out Braid. you own a 360 yet?

Yeah I have a 360, but I'm unable to get the bastard online. The WiFi adpator isn't compatible with Apple basestations (unless I disable all security). Pretty cranky; Braid is actually on my short list of casual games to check out.

I had this huge clunky clip-op front-light for my Gameboy. :-D The two combined must've weighed two pounds.
