Shweaty Balls
dancingpineappl and I biked to Madrona today for a late lunch (late owing to me). Fools we were, thinking anything in Madrona would be open on Sunday afternoon.
The man closing up Hi Spot suggested that if we hurried, we could make it to Coastal Kitchen before they stopped serving brunch. So hurry we did. 34th to 15th is a rather nasty hill, and even moving diagonally it took a lot out of me. God bless my glorious bike, I was pulling ahead of Pineappl on the hill (and she's fit) - but at what cost? At. What. Cost?
Made it to Coastal Kitchen with 7 minutes to spare. My lungs felt raw, like after running laps in high school. Good exercise. Much better workout than grinding on the elliptical machine in my garage.
Took the direct route home - less than 10 minutes from east Capitol Hill to my house! Nice. Now I just need more excuses to go there.
The bike is a pleasure to ride, especially on good asphalt. My driving sense is coming back to me, but I'm just as impatient as ever on the road. The bike makes me feel nimble, more eager to turn across oncoming traffic. Stupid? No close calls so far - that I've noticed.
