Current music:The New - Interpol

Days like this drive me nuts! It's Saturday, perhaps the warmest day of the year so far. But it's also gray and overcast, with showers likely. So I want to go out, but I don't want to go out. The warm fresh air compels me but the leaden sky makes me depressive.

Drr.

Guess I'll compromise: coffee shop.

P.S. losing access to my desktop computer has made me super-restless and uncomfortable. The 12" Powerbook is great, but I feel like I'm staring at the world through a soda straw. What do people do, if not sit at a computer all weekend? I forget....

Don't forget, you can plug it into your LCD and use your USB keyboard and mouse with it. You might enjoy Aqua on the big screen.

I'm actually pondering buying a flat panel to get me through the next month of thesing...

No no, see, it's the LCD that died. Backlight went out (I can shine a flashlight on the screen and dimly see the graphics). :-(

So I have to get an RMA number and ship it to, like, Kansas. No desktop for a week.

Oh, right, you said that.

I've got a CRT in the basement you are welcome to. A decent 17". Of course that's what I should be using instead of buying a new screen...

Yes, you should use that. :-)

I'm /tempted/ to go buy a replacement to use while the original is replaced (the store is five blocks away). Then I'll have dual flat panels at home. I consider dual monitors an absolute necessity at work, but two at home might be a bit much. Unless I do a lot more coding.

Decisions, decisions....

Wait, you can nearly justify two for home use, and I'm not allowed to get a new one to work on my visually intensive thesis?

Oh, you have a real, stable income. Right.

Do you have an extra video out port? My guess is that for home use you won't see much benefit. OTOH, how much was yours? Would you buy the same model?

I have dual LCDs at home now, due to a recent new PC purchase: 1280x1024 & 1600x1024. And MAN! Of course, I'm current telecommuting exclusively for income. I should have gone dual at home a year ago.

I got a chai milkshake with cardamom ice cream at Butterfly Herbs (a grown-up milkshake!) and then I went to the library to do some more research. *fun.

It's even gorgeous and sunny here today too. *sigh

It was *way* warmer on Thursday. Friday, too. The world is only going by you while you're at work, chained to a desk....

Yeah, well, I was very aware of the weather while at work, but it does pay for the roof over my head. And this laptop. And the stir fry I'm about to consume.

Can't you plug the laptop into YOUR GIANT TV SET?

TV sets have shitty resolution. Even the hi-def ones can't compete with an average laptop display.
